Getting married at the Oxwich Bay Hotel in the winter
I met Jodie and Brian at the venue’s wedding fayre, they told me they wanted a relaxed day with as many natural photos as possible, so that was two boxes ticked straight away. The Oxwich Bay Hotel lends itself to a chilled wedding all year round because everything is so close, the hotel, the marquee, the accommodation and of course the beach.
Jodie’s bridal preparation at Oxwich Bay Hotel
Jodie and her bridal party got ready in the hotel lounge during the first part of the morning. It’s a lovely spot with plenty of room, lot’s of light and a view out over the beach. As a keen surfer, I couldn’t help but grab a shot as someone caught a wave in the background of the hair and make up. It’s not often we see such perfect waves at Oxwich.
During the late morning, accompanied by the sound of a surprise Welsh Piper, Jodie and her bridesmaids moved up to the Bridal suite to get dressed and add the final touches and Brian arrived to help organise the guests downstairs.

The Oxwich marquee reception
After their ceremony in the Chestnut Room Jodie, Brian and their family and guests were led to the marquee by the Piper. We had already discussed photo timings during previous meetings and also that morning, so my plan was to take the formal groups straight away, then capture natural, candid shots of everyone relaxing in the marquee lounge. This gave Jodie and Brian chance to have a drink and mingle until the right moment outside when the sun just started to set through the trees, reflecting an orange glow on the wet sand.
…Perfect moment, nailed it.
After the wedding breakfast, there was a surprise for the guests Jodie and Brian had booked singing waiters. If you want some entertainment that stirs things up after a big meal and lots of wine this is a very good option.
They also had the amazing band 24K who got the dance floor packed all night with a small break in the middle of the evening for wedding sparklers.
