Documentary wedding photography that looks exactly how it felt.
The hugs, tears and belly laughs, just how your wedding day will be.
Digital and analogue 35mm film wedding photography across south Wales and the UK.
Hi I’m Martin, a South Wales documentary wedding photographer based in Swansea, I’ve been doing this for nearly twenty years, and I still love every single wedding with the same curiosity as my first. I’m all about focussing on real moments, the people you love, and how your day really feels as it’s experienced.
What is documentary wedding photography?
It’s watching. Really watching.
Not only the big moments everyone expects, but also the little things, the ones that flash by in seconds and are gone. The ones most people in the room didn’t see, because they were looking somewhere else.
This is why documentary wedding photography will work for you and your day.
I won’t be invisible, i’ll blend in to give you the entire experience of your day. Not just the highlights, but the whole story. Because in ten, twenty, forty years, those are the photos you’ll keep coming back to.

“They show the day just how we remember it.”

“We really just want the day to be about everyone we love being in the same room XX”.

“It’s important that the photos show the fun that everyone is having – we love candid photos for this very reason!”.
“We love the fact you capture the more natural moments! This is definitely a priority for us. Your photos look very fun!”.
“It’s so amazing you can (almost) hear the photos”.

“OMG Martin!! I love this one on film :)”

“I don’t need many photos of me, i’ll be there! but i want to see photos of my friends enjoying our day”.
With nearly 20 years experience, I strongly believe documenting your wedding in the most natural and authentic way will make it last a lifetime.
Your day isn’t a photoshoot! it’s the story of how everyone you love, came together to celebrate. Unscripted moments captured on digital and analogue film.
Unfiltered, true to life colours show how your day really looked, while observational documentary photography shows how it really felt.
Life as it happened– throughout your whole day I’ll tell your story, it will be honest, real and unique to you. Creating memories that feel as vivid as the moment itself.
“Easiest 5 star review we’ll ever give….Martin is relaxed, very easy to get along with and somehow seems to be in the right place to capture all the hilarious and perfect unstaged moments.”

Things people often ask me.
What if we feel awkward in front of the camera?
That’s completely normal. You don’t need to perform or know what to do. I’ll photograph things as they happen so you can stay focused on your day. Instead, my documentary approach lets things happen naturally so you can focus on being with each other and your guests.
Do you take family group photographs?
Although my approach is candid, documentary storytelling, It’s still important to have photos of your loved ones. So we’ll discuss who your important people are and i’ll make sure you get those photos, quickly and without fuss. There’s nothing worse than guests standing around for ages waiting for their turn to be photographed, so I won’t let that happen.
Do you use analogue film as well as digital cameras?
I do, I love shooting with film, it’s a slower more intentional process and it gives you that imperfect grainy goodness. There’s a page dedicated to it HERE. You can choose to add film to your digital images and more information is on my prices page.
Will we still get a few relaxed portraits together?
Absolutely, if you want couple portraits they’re kept simple and natural. Usually just a short walk or a few minutes away from the crowd, without turning it into a formal shoot. Enough to give you space together, without taking you away from your day.
“Martin’s approach just let the day unfold naturally so the photos felt like they fit in with everything else (rather than the other way around).”

The important info.
If I hadn’t mentioned it already, my approach is natural, candid and documentary. You’re not required to perform for photos. I can guide you through family photos and your portraits if that’s what you need to feel more confortable.
I work with digital cameras but I also shoot 35mm analogue film MORE HERE.
My collections start at £1000 and you can see all my PRICE INFORMATION HERE.
I have nearly twenty years of wedding photography experience, you can find out more on these featured podcast episodes.
